Petrie Campus & Mission Pastor
Christ Central Presbyterian Church is a vibrant gospel centred church on mission to reach the north edge of Brisbane. We’re now prayerfully planning to launch a new congregation in the suburb of Petrie and we desire to have a campus pastor join our team. We’re looking for someone who wants to be on Team-Christ Central, while bringing their own shepherding-heart, a desire to preach the word and a passion to grow a mission culture. We think Christ Central is a great place to be a pastor – being in a supportive team, and full of good challenges as we serve in the cause of growing lifelong disciples of Jesus.
Position Description
Petrie Campus & Mission Pastor
At Christ Central, our prayer is to see a flood of lifelong disciples across the north edge of Brisbane and beyond. For the last 15 years our Sunday gatherings have been based at Eatons Hill State School, but it has been God’s provision for us to now have a church building in Petrie, 10kms northwards. With the growth in our church, the location of many of our members, and the unique mission opportunities in the Petrie area, we’re prayerfully moving towards launching a new campus at this location in 2023, or as soon as practical thereafter.
We’re seeking a campus pastor who desires to work within the multisite model we’re pursuing – one church with two campuses.
- Neither has a mothership/daughter mentality. Both are equally resourced, with a shared vision and combined ministry model.
- There is clarity around unity and flexibility – certain decisions will be made centrally within the Christ Central eldership and staff, while other decisions will be left to each campus in keeping with their unique ministry opportunities.
- Each campus is part of our ‘ecosystem’ thinking for disciple making and teams. Using the model of the 5 Ms (Magnification, Membership, Maturity, Mission and Ministry), along with Next Gen ministries (Kids, Youth and Young Adults), the staff team works to support each other.
- All staff work to support Christ Central as a whole and currently, all full-time Christ Central staff wear multiple hats in the Ms and Next Gen areas. As well as giving leadership focus to the Petrie campus, this role is about championing Mission across Christ Central.
- Both the Eatons Hill and Petrie campus will be under the spiritual leadership of the Christ Central elders, be under the financial oversight of the Christ Central Committee of Management, and Garnet Swann as lead pastor will oversee the staff team.
Responsibilities
- At Petrie, be ‘on the ground’ to bring vision, leadership and pastoral care – so that this campus will be healthy in discipleship– including having a mission/outreach focus, welcoming newcomers, growing in love for each other, and empowering others for ministry and leadership.
- Work closely with other leaders and staff in the various M areas – to see ministry develop at Petrie in accordance with the vision, goals and outcomes that have been established. Rather than an isolated congregation pastor role, we support and empower each other to see discipleship happen.
- Preach regularly at Petrie and work collaboratively with the Lead Pastor who will also preach regularly across all campuses.
- Lead the Mission area for Christ Central (across both campuses) which involves supporting ‘Mission champions’ and leading teams for our key conversion strategy and pathway.
- Helping coordinate key mission events and build teams for supporting overseas mission.
Other Duties
- Work closely with the Christ Central Lead Pastor in your ministry of Petrie campus pastor and Mission pastor.
- Attend team meetings to bring leadership to Mission across Christ Central church.
- Occasionally attend the Eatons Hill campus on Sundays to help communicate mission activity, and build mission teams.
- Regularly communicate with Christ Central elders, and attend elders (Session) meetings from time to time.
Expectations
- Pursue personal godliness in church relationships, ministry, and family.
- Spend regular personal devotional time in God’s word, and encourage and model this for the congregations in each campus
- Be supportive of the overall direction and leadership given by the Christ Central elders.
- Be supportive of Christ Central’s convictions, goals and vision with its prayer to see a flood of lifelong disciples across the north edge and Brisbane and beyond.
- Model a mission-heart in time spent with those who don’t yet know Jesus.
- Adhere to all childsafe and workplace and safety requirements in the undertaking of their ministry.
- In anticipation that the Petrie Campus would not commence until at least the second half of 2023 (or potentially longer), be part of Christ Central while it’s only one campus at Eatons Hill for a number of months – to help build relational connections and leadership trust, and help prepare a core team for the launch of the new campus.
- Live in the area of the Petrie campus.
Qualifications
- Suitable referees who can attest to a pursuit of personal godliness in church relationships, ministry, and family, and also attest to working well in teams and leadership of others.
- Teachable, wanting to work well in a team and demonstrated servant leadership where they have sought to develop others for service and Christian maturity.
- Completed or currently undertaking theological training at an evangelical reformed bible college.
- Previous experience working in other team leadership contexts will be of value, where there’s experience in developing others
- Be able to hold a Queensland Government child-safe Blue Card.
